What drives employees? - Old post with still valid insight!
I was moved to write this post based on two different articles I read in LinkedIn today. I was surprised to see some statistics from 1999 being cited as "news". Although everything is informative, I think it can be a bit misleading. Nevertheless it moved me to confirm or deny the content, particularly because I know that what moves employees today is way different of what it was in 1999 as I hear it from in my classes and speaking engagements all the time. As a global collective we now know how important it is to be recognized if compared to other variables that may make us happy employees, professionals or beings and move us to do more. So in 1999 it seemed to be 28% of recognition and 28% of compensation what moved employees. In 2013 it was 78% recognition and who cares what the rest was right? And moving forward with all the economic downturns, the detachment of virtual friendships and the need to rediscover the basics in human interaction we will see that recognition, truly is the main driver for more fulfilling business practices. Check the infographic below.
Btw I am not endorsing any company with the infographic, just thought it is a nice finding and well presented
